Previous Solstice Next

The Solstice photos were a true test of my patience. It was 12 degrees and snowing hard as I entered Olympic National Park. The park rangers had closed many roads and I was afraid that I had made the trip for nothing. I begged one of the rangers to allow me to drive on. I knew that I could make it, but I had to convince him of that. After a 20 minute discussion, he realized that I was not going to give up until I had the chance to go on. I told him that I would be camping for a couple of days and had enough cold weather supplies for the trek. Eventually, I was allowed to pass. I hiked haphazardly in the snow for hours wondering if I was even going to get a shot. The sun abruptly broke through and the "God Beams" appeared brilliantly, yet briefly.
