Wild Iron
I'd admired the Wild Horses monument from the highway near Vantage for years and finally decided to walk up the hill and spend time with them up close. They don't disappoint. The iron sculptures carry real power — you can feel the energy the artist put into them, the manes, the stance, the forward motion. Standing among them at sunset, the light softened everything, casting the horses as dark silhouettes against a sky of pink and lavender. A rainbow appeared between the figures, and down in the lower corner, a cluster of spring balsam root added one more gift to an evening that kept giving.
